Penn Relays 2015:

“I just wanted to be consistent,” he said, “I wanted to take it easy on the first throw, be controlled and hit good positions and I turned out throwing an eight-foot PR. So I was very excited to start off the series with that.”

That set the tone for what turned out to be a very consistent day, as four of his six throws traveled at least 193 feet.

“Pretty much the thought of the day was just to be controlled and stay in that groove that I established on my first throw,” Lucas said. “It’s a fantastic feeling that I can be very consistent. I’ve been putting a lot of work in throughout the off-season, all throughout this season and I’m really thankful to see that I can come out on a day like this, and I can consistently be at my best in a meet like this.”

“To have a medal from Penn Relays, I think, says a lot,” Lucas remarked. “Not many people are blessed to be able to come out and compete at this level. To come out here and continue to progress in the manner that I have, I’m thrilled to come out with a second-place medal.”

“It’s going to be an absolutely fantastic post-season,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing what our team’s going to do, and then what I can do on the personal level.”

Throwing Wisdom:

“Whatever happens to that disc once it comes off my hand, that’s a product of what happens in the circle,” he said.

On Nerves:

“I think it’s important to control the nerves, but then I think it’s also important to have some nerves there because that helps you to really be quick in the front,” he said. “I think that competitions like that bring those kinds of nerves out in people, but it’s very important to continue to relax and worry about what you can control.”
